WILLIAM & MARY-ANN'S SON WILLIAM HENRY. TREE 4/2A

 

WILLIAM HENRY SON OF WILLIAM AND MARY ANN WAS BORN IN THE YEAR 1883,  IN THE CENSUS OF 1891 HE WAS SEVEN YEARS OLD AND LIVING AT 35, STONE HOUSE WITH HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS. IT IS ASSUMED THAT AS HE GREW OLDER HE ALSO WAS INDENTURED TO ;HIS FATHER  AS A BRICKLAYER.

 

AT WHAT AGE WE DO NOT KNOW HE MET EDITH EDWARDS A LOCAL GIRL WHO LIVED AT FOREST ROW.

LIKE MANNY YOUNG COUPLES THEY; COURTED AND EVENTUALLY MARRIED AT ALL  SAINTS CHURCH CROWBOROUGH. . THIS ON THE 30TH MARCH   1907.

THEY WERE BOTH AGE 24. AND AT CROWBOROUGH THEY HAD THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN EDITH MARY BORN 1907, ELLA MAUD 1909,.

 

WILLIAM THEN DECIDED THAT BETTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE FUTURE OF HIS FAMILY WAS TO EMIGRATED TO CANADA. SO TAKING HIS YOUNG FAMILY HE MOVED FROM ENGLAND AND SET OUT TO CANADA IN 1910/11. HIS WIFE EDITH WAS EXPECTING THEIR THIRD CHILD THIS BEING A BOY AFTER TWO GIRLS. AND IN CANADA AFTER THEIR ARRIVAL WILLIAM SPENCER WAS BORN IN 1911, THIS TO BE FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER CHILD IN 1912 ANOTHER Y GIRL WAS BORN THIS BEING  HILDA ADA  BOTH WILLIAM & EDITH AT THIS TIME BEING AGED 29.

BUT WAR CLOUDS WERE LOOMING OVER EUROPE AND EVENTUALLY WAR WAS DECLARED IN 1914. AS PART OF THE COMMON WEALTH WILLIAM JOINED THE ARMY AND SERVED FOR FOUR  YEARS IN THE REGINA RIFLES.

THERE IS A PHOTO OF WILLIAM TAKEN DURING THE WAR IN EUROPE. AGE 32.

 

WILLIAM RETURNED TO CIVILIAN LIFE AND COMMENCED TO PLY HIS TRADE AS A BUILDER. FOUR YEARS AFTER THE WAR IN 1922 EDITH WAS EXPECTING THEIR FIFTH CHILD A BOY NAMED ERIC  ALFRED BORN 1922, BUT ALSO THERE WAS SORROW IN THE FAMILY FOR HILDA ADA ONLY TEN YEARS OLD WAS ILL AND IN THAT YEAR THEY LOST THIS  CHILD.

 

THIS WAS NO THE ONLY CHILD THAT THEY WERE TO LOSE FOR WILLIAM SPENCER THEIR ELDEST SON DIED AT THE AGE OF 23 A YOUNG MAN JUST STARTING OUT ON LIFE IN 1933.

 

WITH THE OUT BREAK OF  WAR  WITH GERMANY  CANADA BEING  COMMON WEALTH COUNTRY ASSISTED BY SENDING TROOPS TO GREAT BRITAIN  TO HELP IN REPELLING THE THREAT  OF GERMANY. WILLIAM & EDITH SON ERIC JOINED THE CANADIAN ARMY IN THE REGINA RIFLES AND DURING THE WAR WAS PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN.

HIS FATHER WILLIAM NOT TO BE OUT DONE ,AND AFTER BEING INVOLVED IN THE BLOODY WAR OF 1914-1918 JOINED THE HOME GUARD IN CANADA GUARDING VERDIN AIRPORT. BOTH WILLIAM & EDITH BEING AGE 57 IN 1940.

THEIR SON ERIC SURVIVED THE WAR AND RETURNED HOME AND ATTENDED  GRADUATE MANITOBA UNIVERSITY WHERE HE EVENTUALLY OBTAINED A DEGREE.

Mr. And Mrs. W. H. Harman Honoured On Diamond Wedding Anniversary

 

MR. AND MRS. W. H. HARMAN OF THE BURROWS DISTRICT OF DAUPHIN CELEBRATED THEIR DIAMOND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON THURSDAY, MARCH 30. MARRIED AT CROWBOROUGH, SUSSEX, ENGLAND, IN 1907, THEY ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES IN CANADA IN 1911 AT VIRDEN, WHERE MR. HARMAN WAS ENGAGED IN THE BUILDING TRADE FOR 35 YEARS. IN 1946 THEY MOVED TO THE BURROWS DISTRICT OF DAUPHIN .

 

THE COUPLE WERE HONOURED AT A DINNER ATTENDED BY MEMBERS OF THEIR FAMILY AND  CLOSE  FRIENDS, WHEN  CONGRATULATORY  MESSAGES 1WERE READ FROM HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH, THE PRIME MINISTER, PREMIER OF MANITOBA, LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR OF MANITOBA, THE FEDERAL AND PROVINCIAL LEADERS OF THE OPPOSITION; R. ELMER FORBES, MP; AND HON. STEWART E. MCLEAN, QC, MLA.

 

FOLLOWING THE DINNER A RECEPTION WAS HELD AT THE HOME OF THEIR SON IN LAW AND DAUGHTER, MR. AND MRS.-E..P. BLACKBURN OF THE BURROWS DISTRICT. MANY 'FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS GATHERED TO OFFER CONGRATULATIONS.

 

MR. & MRS.  HARMAN ARE IN GOOD HEALTH AND ENJOY A QUIET BUT ACTIVE LIFE. TWO OF THEIR PRINCIPLE INTERESTS ARE IN ACTING AS A FOCAL POINT FOR THEIR FAMILY AND IN GARDENING.

 

THEY HAVE A SON ERIC, OF WINNIPEG; AND TWO DAUGHTERS, MRS. E. F. BLACKBURN OF DAUPHIN, AND MRS. A. STEWART (ELLA) OF ROSS INVERNESS, SCOTLAND. THEY HAVE ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN  AND  FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

TO SHOW THE SPIRIT OF THESE TWO "YOUNG" SENIOR'S MR. HARMAN SAID IN HIS REPLY TO A TOAST TO HIM AND HIS WIFE, "WE ARE LOOKING  FOR-WARD TO MAKING A START ON THE SIXTY-YEAR PERIOD OF OUR MARRIED LIFE.

DIAMOND DAY IN CANADA

 

A COUPLE WHO WERE MARRIED AT THE ALL  SAINTS CHURCH CROWBOROUGH  IN 1907 AND WHO HAVE LIVED IN CANADA SINCE 1911  IS 83 YEAR OLD WILLIAM HENRY HARMAN AND HIS WIFE EDITH, OF DAUPHINE ,MANITOBA CELEBRATED THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING RECENTLY.

 

MR HARMAN BORN IN CROWBOROUGH IS THE ELDEST SON OF   THE LATE WILLIAM HARMAN, FORMALLY OF STONE HOUSE, WHITEHILL ROAD.

WHO HAD A BUILDERS BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS.

 

HIS TWO SISTERS THE MISSES LOUISA AND OLIVE HARMAN AND A BROTHER, MR. ALEC HARMAN, LIVE  AT  LOUISVILLE,  PILMER,  ROAD, CROWBOROUGH.

 

MRS. HARMAN  HOME WAS AT FOREST ROW.

 

FOR 35 YEARS,' MR. HARMAN WAS IN THE BUILDING TRADE AT VIRDEN, MANITOBA. HE AND HIS WIFE MOVED  TO DAUPHIN IN 1946.

 

AT A DINNER TO CELEBRATE THE ANNIVERSARY, CONGRATULATIONS WERE READ FROM THE' QUEEN, THE PRIME MINISTER OF CANADA, AND THE PREMIER AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF MANITOBA..

BOTH MR  AND MRS. HARMAN ARE IN 'GOOD HEALTH AND ENJOY GARDENING.

THEY HAVE A SON AND TWO DAUGHTERS-ONE  OF WHOM LIVES IN SCOTLAND-11 GRANDCHILDREN  AND  F0UR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

ELLA MAUD BORN IN 1909 AT CROWBOROUGH.

 

WILLIAM HENRY  DIED IN 1975 AT VERDIN MANITOBA CANADA AGE 92.

 

FOUR YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF WILLIAM, EDITH WAS TO LOSE HER ONLY SON, ERIC  WHO DIED OF A HEART ATTACK ON THE 24  MARCH  1979 HE BEING AGED 57.

EDITH HIS WIFE DIED SEVEN YEARS  AFTER WILLIAM IN  1982 VERDIN MANITOBA CANADA AGE 99.

 

HER DAUGHTER EDITH MARY BLACKBURN(NEE HARMAN) DIEHE SAME YEAR AGE 79.

 

ERIC ALFRED HARMAN SUDDENLY, ON MARCH 24, 1979, MR. ERIC ALFRED HARMAN, OF 101 WORDSWORTH WAY,

AGED 57 YEARS, BELOVED HUSBAND OF BETTE JEAN HARMAN DIED.

BESIDES HIS WIFE HE IS SURVIVED BY THREE SONS, ERIC. JR., NEIL AND BURKE, HIS MOTHER, MRS. EDITH HARMAN OF DAUPHIN, TWO SISTERS, MRS. EDITH BLACKBURN OF DAUPHIN AND MRS. ELLA STEWART OF SCOTLAND.

 HIS

MOTHER-IN-LAW, MRS. MADELINE GUSTO OF VANCOUVER AND NUMEROUS OTHER RELATIVES.

HE WAS PREDECEASED BY A SON, SCOTT IN 1957 AND FATHER WILLIAM IN 1975.

MR. HARMAN WAS BORN IN VIRDEN, MANITOBA AND SERVED WITH THE REGINA RIFLES REGIMENT DURING WORLD WAR TWO, WITH THE RANK OF CAPTAIN.

HE ATTENDED AND RECEIVED A COMMERCE DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA IN 1952.

AFTER GRADUATING, HE JOINED THE GREAT-WEST LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY, WHERE LIE WORKED UNTIL THE TIME OF HIS DEATH.

WHILE WORKING WITH GREAT-WEST LIFE, HE OBTAINED HIS C.L.U AND BECAME A MEMBER OF THAT ASSOCIATION.

HE ALSO BE-LONGED TO NUMEROUS OTHER ORGANIZATIONS OVER THE YEARS.

FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD IN THE THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS, BROADWAY AT FURBY, ON   WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28TH, AT 2:1 5P.M.

 

THE REV. E. WHITE OFFICIATING. INTERMENT IN CHAPEL LAWN MEMORIAL GARDENS.

FRIENDS WISHING TO PAY THEIR RESPECTS, MAY DO SO AT THE CHAPELS ON TUESDAY EVENING BETWEEN 7:00 AND 9:00.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS WILL BE MESSRS. ERNEST BLACKBURN AND MORT PATTERSON.

ACTIVE PALLBEARERS WILL BE MESSRS. BRIAN NAMSFIELD, SIG HELGASON, WALTER STEWART, REG ABBOTT, JAN ANDERSON AUD HUGH NANTON.
