THE PURITANS WERE GAINING ASCENDANCY IN BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT, THE WHOLE COUNTRY WAS IN A STATE OF WAR WITH VARIOUS RELIGIOUS FACTIONS ALLAYING THEM SELVES TO THE KING CHARLES 1ST IF INFLUENCED BY CATHOLIC BELIEFS OR CHURCH OF ENGLAND BELIEFS,OR OPPOSING THE KING IF OF PURITAN BELIEF, AN LASTLY ON THE GROUNDS OF UNPOPULAR LAWS.
