GEORGE & MARY HARMAN'S SON  & GEORGE'S BROTHER NICHOLAS. TREE SHT-8/2

 

NICHOLAS TO BECAME A FARMER, HE FARMED AT FLAW HATCH GRINSTEAD, AND MARRIED  ANN STENNING AT THE FLEET IN LONDON ON THE 3rd MAY 1743.

 

 THEIR FIRST TWO CHILDREN WERE ELIZABETH  THEN  ANN AFTER HER MOTHER. THEN THEIR FIRST BOY EDWARD FOLLOWED BY A DAUGHTER MARY AFTER GRANDMOTHER. THEN TWO MORE BOYS WHICH THEY NAMED GEORGE NAMED AFTER HIS GRANDFATHER, AND JOHN. THEN FOLLOWED BY A GIRL HANNAH AND LASTLY STEPHEN A BOY. ALL CHILDREN SURVIVED AND MARRIED.

 

FIRSTLY ELIZABETH MARRIED A MR. TESTER OF LEE IN KENT.

 

ANN MARRIED A NICHOLAS FROM EDEN BRIDGE KENT, MARY MARRIED A JOHN STODDARD ALIAS STREETER FROM NEW YORK ON THE 7 JULY 1783.

 THERE MUST BE A STORY SOME WHERE ON THIS ALIAS MR. STREETER.

 

THEIR DAUGHTER HANNAH  MARRIED IN WORTH TO A GEORGE COOPER ON THE  9TH OF APRIL 1798 AT WORTH . THIS AGAIN SHOWING HOW THE GIRLS WOULD MOVE OUT OF THE AREA THEY WERE BORN AND GENERALLY  AT TIMES MORE TIMES THAN THE BOYS.

 

EDWARD THEIR OLDEST SON MARRIED A WIDOW NAMED ELIZABETH NORRIS ON THE 26TH JUNE 1769 AT ST: GEORGE HANOVER SQUARE LONDON.

ELIZABETH'S MAIDEN NAME GODFREY OF OXFORD.

GEORGE THEIR SON WAS MARRIED PRIOR TO HIS SECOND MARRIAGE WHICH WAS TO LYDIA SIMMS WHO HE MARRIED ON THE 5TH OF DECEMBER 1792. AT FAVERSHAM IN KENT

GEORGE AND LYDIA MOVED THEN TO TICHURST IN EAST SUSSEX WHERE THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN ALL BOYS. JOHN, GEORGE AND EDWARD. OF THE THREE BOYS ONLY ONE THAT I KNOW OF MARRIED. THIS BEING JOHN HARMAN THE SON WHO MARRIED A JANE ABOUT 1792.

JOHN THEIR SON MARRIED A LUCY EDWARDS AT EAST GRINSTEAD  ON THE 27TH JULY 1798, THEY HAD EIGHT CHILDREN.

STEPHEN MARRIED A MARY DADSWELL WHO CAME FROM HARTFIELD A VILLAGE NEAR EAST GRINSTEAD. ABOUT 1790

 

IT IS WORTH READING ON AND SEE HOW THE VARIOUS FAMILIES FORTUNES CHANGE FOR NICHOLAS & ANN HAVE SOME INTERESTING DESCENDANTS.

 

 SUCH ARE THE CHANGING FORTUNES OF THE ORDINARY MEN & WOMEN OVER THE DECADES

NICHOLAS HARMAN DIED AT THE AGE OF 41, AND WAS BURIED ON THE 29th JANUARY   1763 AT EAST GRINSTEAD. HIS WIFE ANN HAD A MEMORIAL ERECTED IN MEMORY OF HER HUSBAND NICHOLAS.

 

ON THE DEATH OF NICHOLAS, ANN WAS AGED 41 THEY HAD BEEN MARRIED FOR TWENTY YEARS. HER- ELDEST DAUGHTER ELIZABETH WAS AGE 17 AND HER YOUNGER CHILD JOHN AGE 7. THOUGH SHE LOST HER HUSBAND ALL THE CHILDREN SURVIVED AND MARRIED.

ANN HARMAN (NEE STENNING) BORN AT ARDINGLY IN 1722 A FARMING AREA AND THIS POSSIBLY ASSISTED ANN CONTINUING SUCCESS OF THE FARM AFTER HER HUSBANDS DEATH.

 

ANN HARMAN  HER SELF WAS BURIED WITH NICHOLAS ON THE 29th JUNE 1788  IN THE GRAVESTONE ERECTED BY HER IN 1763 AT THE AGE OF 66. THIS 25 YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF NICHOLAS.

 

 

ANN STENNING. Born 1722 ARDINGLY. Died 28 JUN 1788 EAST GRINSTEAD AGE 66.

 

She married NICHOLAS HARMAN. Born 1719 EAST GRINSTEAD. Died 22 JAN 1763 EAST GRINSTEAD AGE 44. Children of
